This place is perfect for a special occasion. Recommend making a reservation in advance! I ordered the filet mignon with the herb lemon butter sauce and it did not disappoint. One of the best steaks I've had in NYC.

Perfect for a special occasion! I came here on a Saturday night for dinner to celebrate a late Valentines Day and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I got a room in the wine cellar and it was an intimate setting with dim lighting. The service was great and the waiter explained every dish well. It did take a bit, around 30 minutes, for the steak to be prepared, but we got starter dishes and cocktails in the meantime. I ordered the following dishes: * 30 Day Jyukusei Porterhouse Steak - 9/10 - The filet side was so tender and melted in your mouth. The strip side was a bit chewy and had more tendons, so not as good but still delicious. The dry rub on the outside gave the steak a lot of flavor and the house made sauces were delicious. * Japanese Wagyu Truffle Roll - 10/10 - This was my favorite dish! I loved that they considered different textures for this roll. The soft tuna and wagyu paired so well with the crispy potatoes. I was worried because truffles are usually too strong and overpower other flavors. On this dish, the truffle flavor was apparent, but light. * Cheese Fries - 8.5/10 - I liked the presentation of this dish with the melted cheese spilling over the side of the container. I also liked that they used a mixture of regular and sweet potatoes. It was kind of heavy though, especially when eaten with the steak. * Azabu Whiskey Sour - 10/10 - This drink was not too strong, which I like, and I loved the subtle yuzu flavor. The foamy egg whites on top really elevated it and made it more fun to drink. * Wabi Sabi - 7.5/10 - This drink was ok, but the matcha flavor was a little too bitter for me. I think it needed another sweet element to balance it out. Overall, I had a lovely meal and would love to try more dishes. It's in a great location with lots of dessert places and shops nearby to check out too. The meal was definitely expensive, but great to check out for a special night.

Update 2024: Since that 1st dining experience, Salt and Charcoal has elevated its menu, in adding more items, even more wagyu, it's been a real treat especially sonce I have eaten here over a dozen times. Sure, the prices have risen, but the flavors have skyrocketed!! They are a premier neighborhood gem that no other place in Williamsburg can muster. Last night, they served me and my guest a Chateaux Briand med well, which cut like butter. Along with their signature baked potato, we were in heaven. We also had the char grilled edimami, the slightly grilled oyster in sake and soy sauce, in addition to the Fried Nasu & Maitake Mushroom in a broth! For dessert, they offered a Valentines Special which was a Chocolate Banana cake...available on Valentines Day! It was a great night again.

Dark inside, very romantic vibe with dimmed lighting. We've been to this robatayaki steakhouse a few times over the years and always have good experience. Very decent food and attentive service. Hubby & I recently went for an early dinner couple weeks ago on a rainy Friday evening and luckily we were able to get a table without reservation. We start off with Uni & Wagyu Beef roll which was mouthwatering good. For main course we opted for the 30 day Jyukusei Porterhouse Steak for Two, it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Along with a side of S+C Baked Potatoes made a great meal.

I got the 30 day dry aged New York strip steak, and it was so delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly - so tender and juicy. The steak paired well with the sauce, particularly the wasabi sauce. And it had a nice crust. I also got a side order of grilled broccoli and the Ume Bellini cocktail, both of which were pretty good. The ambience was also very romantic, perfect for a date night or a cozy dinner with friends.

I was looking for a place with Japanese A5 wagyu and this place came up on the search. Everything was absolutely amazing. Went on a Sunday so it was relatively quiet. We ordered the salt + charcoal drink per the waiters recommendation. It was delicious and very refreshing. For starters, we ordered the wagyu roll and crab cake. The wagyu role was so good. The wait was fresh and very fairly. Even the wasabi tasted fresh! The crab cake was also very good. The wasabi cream sauce was so good. Crab was also so plentiful. I love when crab cakes are filled with crab and not overwhelmed with breadcrumbs. Now for the wagyu, amazing! Wagyu is like butter. It's so smooth and perfectly fatty. All you need is a little salt. It comes with a few dips but honestly, with the salt and the seaweed, there's nothing else needed. The only complaint I would have is that the sides are expensive and also they aren't that great. I liked the potatoes the most with the sour cream and lemon zest. But beyond that, the options are pretty limited. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.

5 stars! Another great restaurant experience in Williamsburg. I'm not a red meat or steak eater although restaurant clicks.com rates them #1 in steaks and they are rated in front of Peter Lugar. The main floor has booth seating, regular seating and a full bar. There is outside seating with heaters for the cold weather. They also have seating down stairs which has a nice room with a full wine selection that you can request on the weekends. It's also available for private parties and it has a full sound system and disco ball. Service was AWESOME!! our waiter Tee was on point and what I liked most was that he explained all the dishes the came out and what to expect in flavor. He also explained how they were able to achieve the flavor. It's a comfortable space and all of the wait staff were exceptional. They work well together and hep each other so no customers are left hanging. Again, staff and service was great. I can't see anyone not having a great time. We ordered just the right amount of food. Started with the charcoal grilled edamame which had a smoke flavor. It was definitely different than any edamame I have had in the past. The best part was the crab cake, fresh lump, home made with no fillers just crab. It is accompanied by a Wasabi cream sauce that has a nice kick. We ordered 3 rolls, the Japanese Wagu roll, the Shrimp Crunch roll and the Damon roll. All of them had a flavor of their own. Good size portions and each roll had a distinct flavor. Ion the host was very outgoing, got us in even without a reservation on a Saturday night. I would highly recommend Salt & Charcoal for a great experience. They are open every day from 5:30 pm to midnight. You can book your reservation through Resy.

I decided to come here for my birthday dinner with the bf. This is a quaint little restaurant on the corner - it's not a huge space but it's put together well. Excellent service - very attentive, informative & polite. Food was great! The steak with that herb butter was everything. I loved the wagyu roll which was one of their specials for the day. Most wine bottles were decently priced- I ended up with the only Rośe bottle they had available. I'm glad I was allowed to taste it first. It was nice, loved the way it hit on the nose. My bfs cocktail was delicious and refreshing. Be prepared to spend $$$ because this place wasn't cheap. Especially the wagyu steaks which we did not get because I didn't want to do that to my man's wallet haha. I think it was something like $180 for an 8oz wagyu? And $270 for a 12oz? Maybe I sound cheap but no thank you. Overall, I would come again but only on a special day. Since it was my birthday I allowed myself to be spoiled. Sharing the steak was a great idea especially because it's summer and its hard to stuff yourself. After the salmon, sushi roll, bottle of Rośe (which I mostly drank) and literally 2 slices of that thick, juicy steak with assorted veggies - I was absolutely content.

The porterhouse & cheese fries bucket really made this meal! The cheese fries had a nice surprise of sweet potato fries with the pulliest fondue cheese. The porterhouse came with some delicious sauces which I'd never seen before! Wasabi cream and a sweet soy onion. Otherwise, slightly over priced ($6 cup of coke) and the wagyu uni definitely wasn't what was pictured on Yelp from years ago.
